Accurate Power

“Drive for show, putt for dough.”

Whoever came up with this overused cliche hasn’t played Cyprian Keyes in West Boylston lately. On this particularly intimidating golf course, double bogeys abound for errant tee shots. And with several forced carries, a minimum carry distance of 200 yards is necessary from the white tees (holes 1 and 18 summarize the need to fly the ball long and straight off the tee). A three putt seems benign compared to lying 5 in the fairway after yanking two out of bounds off the tee.

So, can we really teach club head speed and accuracy? I offer example #1: ME!

Let the putter follow the natural arc of your body on the backswing and it will not go back in a straight line but in towards your body. Provided that you do not manipulate the club with your hands it will return square to the ball and then follow a similar arc in close to your body on the follow through.
